I’ve made this recipe a couple times now, with my own twist. The first time I made it I was frustrated – I couldn’t fit all the cream cheese filling and apples into my frozen pie crust! Even though it was a ‘deep dish’ crust, there just wasn’t enough room for all the filling. So, I took the crust and filling out of the aluminum pie plate and put it on a tart dish so it could all spread out. I did that again this time, but right from the get-go, and it was so much easier.
Jay loves this pie, which is why I made it a 2nd time. I was even able to get all the ingredients on sale so it was super cheap! It’s like an apple pie and cheesecake all in one – how can one go wrong?!?
If you’re making your own crust, use a deep pie plate. If you’re using a frozen crust you can see how it goes – follow the recipe and put it into the crust and see if it will all fit, or you can lay it out flat from the beginning and just accept that it won’t be a ‘pie’ in shape. It all tastes the same!
The recipe comes from a What’s Cooking Kraft Canada magazine that I saved from years ago. Now it’s available online: http://www.kraftcanada.com/recipes/dutch-apple-pie-125555
