We had a Groupon – $65 for a 3-course dinner for 2. I’m glad we were introduced to the restaurant because it was quite good. There was even free parking in the parkade above the restaurant! Service was friendly and thorough, and the food was very enjoyable. The only issue was my tenderloin came out rare instead of medium rare but it was so tender and juicy I didn’t send it back to be cooked more.
Appies:
The crab cakes were crab cakes – although I order them often enough, I’ve never had a spectacular crab cake; but these were good.
This scallop and mushroom dish was really enjoyable – creamy, cheesey and saucy goodness! The bread was really delish dipped into the sauce. I would totally get this again!
Entrees:
My steak was awesome – so tender and juicy even though it was undercooked. It was nice that they didn’t over sauce the dish – sometime steak neptune is drenched in the bernaise sauce, but this was just enough. The potatoes were seasoned well. I was full but kept eating them! The veggies were fresh, cooked el dente, and kinda cute – one little piece of multiple types of veggies!
Jay’s steak was seasoned well, with a cajun kick. He did find it a bit salty, and it was a little over cooked, but again, very tender and enjoyable. His steak is shown in the main image at the top of the post.
Desserts:
Jay ordered the creme brulee. He loved the crunchy crust. I’m not a fan of custard, but he enjoyed it and scraped the dish clean!
The cheesecake was very delectable – a smooth, rich vanilla flavour with fresh fruit.
Now, I don’t want to focus on the negative so I’ll put the one unfortunate thing at the end of my post. What was written on the Groupon did not match the intentions of the restaurant. The Groupon was $65 for a 3-course dinner for 2 – no maximum value, and no further details were provided except we were to choose from appies and entrees of no more than the noted value. The server didn’t provide any explanation so we assumed a 3-course dinner for 2 meant 2 appies, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. In actuality they intended the Groupon to have a maximum value of $104 total – 1 appie to share, 2 entrees and 1 dessert to share. So, we were surprised when we got our bill. We mentioned it to our server and she sent the manager. He was surprised at the situation, as he assumed the text on the Groupon was clear – he took a look at the Groupon and he was very happy we pointed out the issue to him. He was willing to do something to make us happy. We weren’t concerned about the extra $26 we paid because the service and food were good, and because the manager took our feedback about the Groupon very well. All in all, this situation will not prevent us from going back. The food was great, the service was good and there was free parking in a parkade off 17th Ave!
