The King Eddy has a lot of history in downtown Calgary… If you have 17 minutes I highly recommend watching this video that explains the history of the Eddy and the full re-build of it by the National Music Centre. The Eddy re-opened in October 2018, continuing its legacy as a music hotspot, supported by a super tasty restaurant. I haven’t yet been to a show, but I can say that my experience with the food has made a good first impression! The restaurant/bar is now clean, modern and bright… nothing like I can imagine it was in the 70’s!
My friend and I went there for a weekend brunch and both ended up ordering the Cajun Shrimp and Grits with collard greens and a poached egg for $18. Delicious! I’m pretty sure it was my first time eating shrimp and grits and I would definitely recommend you try it if you’ve never had it before. I ordered a bottle of kombucha instead of coffee, hoping it would help with my cold. Honesty, I’m not turning into a hipster LOL.
I can’t wait to return to the King Eddy for supper and try more of their food! I hear that they have the best fried chicken in town 🙂
