I was very happy to try PZA Parlour with a friend recently. I took her out as a thank you for helping me through the passing of my dog Reuben. Twice she dropped everything to meet me at the emergency vet and she stayed with me through all the tough stuff at the end. While I can’t truly pay her back for the support she gave me, I wanted to bring a smile to her face with a whole bunch of tasty food. Foodie friends forever 😉
It was my first time at this restaurant and it is soooo far away from me… but I will happily say that it was worth the drive! We were prepared to binge-eat so we shared two appetizers, two small(er) pizzas and a dessert. Throw in a large glass of wine and we definitely enjoyed our evening!
First off we each ordered a 9 ounce glass of house Sauvignon Blanc for $14. It was tasty and went well with our dinner. For appetizers we shared the Calamari for $13.95 with pickled hot peppers, smoked lemon aioli and a spicy marinara sauce. I thought the hot peppers were a nice kick and the spicy marinara sauce was excellent. I’d definitely be happy eating this again.
We also ordered the Arancini for $13.95. There were 5 saffron infused risotto balls stuffed with local mozzarella topped with their house marinara. We were definitely happy to be able to share 5 rather than just 3 of the delicious rice balls (much better value than at some other Italian restaurants in town)…
I was really drooling over the lobster pizza but for some reason I let Angela steer me away. Darn! Instead I chose a small Pasilla for $17.95. With slow braised porchetta, naturally smoked bacon, charred corn, black beans, bruschetta, red onion, pasilla pepper pizza sauce and mozzarella, it was tasty but I guess it didn’t hit the spot. Actually, I enjoyed it better then next day cold! The crust is very bubbly around the edges, chewy, and not too burnt. I definitely look forward to trying the lobster or the mushroom pizza next.
Angela ordered the Not So Vegan for $17.95 with spinach, green peppers, fresh roma tomatoes, black olives, red onion, wild mushrooms, tomato sauce and mozzarella. I actually enjoyed the veggie pizza more than the pork pizza…
Even though we didn’t even finish our pizza’s and we both had leftovers to take home, we decided to try the Ciambelle for $9.95 – Italian doughnuts, drizzled with Nutella. The serving was way bigger than I expected! I found the donuts to be a bit tough and chewy, but perhaps that’s how traditional Italian doughnuts are made. They were just different than our usual light and fluffy mini donuts from the fair grounds. The Nutella was rich and creamy and stuck to my lips and mouth like peanut butter – perhaps this is not the right dessert for a first date!
All in all I was happy with both the service and the food and I look forward to returning! I must try the gnocchi and more pizza!
