The basket accessory is the cat’s meow! I can finally use the ActiFry as an air fryer, as I originally intended it to be! Without the basket accessory you’re rather limited to what you can cook in the ActiFry… anything with a thick coating or batter would fall off, get rubbed off, or would gum up the paddle something fierce. The basket allows you to cook anything with a coating or a batter and it comes out like it’s been deep fried – all crispy and browned! This is so exciting, people!
Here are two things I’ve done so far… cauliflower and avocado. Avocado you say? Yes. Try it, you’ll like it!
The cauliflower was dipped into a beaten egg mixture and then into a seasoned panko bread crumb mix. Don’t be afraid to use salt! Cauliflower is kind of bland… A ranch, italian, or spicy seasoning would work well, or if you have the Johnny’s garlic seasoning that would be awesome! Add some parmesan cheese to the panko and you’re good to go! The T-Fal Actifry only has one heat setting so the first time making anything is a bit of a guess game in terms of how long it takes… and of course it depends how large you cut your cauliflower. Count on at least 10-15 minutes I think.
The avocado was even easier! I seasoned panko bread crumbs with the Trader Joe’s Chile Lime Seasoning Blend and salt and lightly pushed it onto the avocado. I know we can’t get this seasoning here in Canada, but there are other similar seasoning mixes you can try.
I sprayed the outside of the avocado with a spray EVOO so that the breadcrumbs would get extra crispy. Cook only until the bread crumbs get toasted and the avocado is warm.
