I purchased the Pad Thai Kit from Thai Manna at the new Avenida Market in south Calgary. Avenida and its vendors are only open 11am – 8pm Thursday through Sunday. It’s a great location to do some grocery shopping (fruits, veggies, local meat, baked good) and enjoy a super tasty supper at one of the food vendors on site.
It was kind of hard to decide which kit(s) to try from Thai Manna considering that I cook a lot of Asian food at home and I have red curry and green curry pastes always in my fridge. I went with the Pad Thai and another one (it’s currently in my freezer in the basement and I don’t feel like getting up to see which one it is!). The Pad Thai was honestly, delicious.
The kit came with rice noodles (included), the Pad Thai sauce (soy sauce, fish sauce, palm sugar and tamarind juice), peanuts and chili peppers. You need to provide protein (chicken, shrimp and/or tofu), veggies (onion, garlic, bean sprouts, green onion), egg and lime. Honestly, I think $10 is still a bit expensive for a sauce and some noodles, since I had to do all the cooking… but, it was the best Pad Thai I’ve had in a long time, even from a restaurant. I would recommend the Pad Thai and I’ll buy it again. I’m not exactly sure of the recipe for the sauce, so I will definitely purchase this kit again.
