I should ask what the ‘Ai’ stands for because it’s an intriguing name. This gem of a sushi restaurant is located in Panorama Hills, beside the Save-On-Foods in a small strip mall. I personally find it very awkward to get into this shopping centre from where I live (thanks to very narrow roads with street parking on both sides) but I like shopping at the Save-On-Foods here.
This was my first time to this restaurant and I have to say I was very impressed. The servers were very friendly, and the restaurant was bright and spacious (my only complaint was my booth seat was a little squishy). The menu is very large with a wide variety of items. Sometimes I worry that I menu with so many items on it can’t really be good at any of them, but we were happy with everything we ordered (and we ordered a lot!). There were three of us so we got to try a lot of things.
First off, the salmon sashimi (6 piece order) came beautifully plated with very large pieces of fish. I was generally happy with the portion sizes of everything we were served, but most impressed with the pieces of fish served as sashimi and sushi.
The seaweed salad was super tasty – I wonder if they could just sell me a tub of it at a wholesale price? LOL
I ordered a handful of sushi: special scallops, smoked salmon, BBQ eel and tuna belly. All were delicious. I barely used my soy sauce/wasabi mix.
I didn’t try the prawn tempura but it looked nice and light (I was late taking the photo, but there were 6 in the serving).
The rolls we got were the Pineapple Express, Norway and Las Vegas… all were delicious and presentation was very pretty.
The sauce with the spicy salmon roll was a sweet and spicy sticky sauce. Tasty!
I really can’t wait to come back and try more!
