Maybe it’s unfair to talk about the best caesar salad I’ve ever had, given that it is in the Heathrow, London airport… I mean, how often will any of us get to have a casual lunch there? I beg for your forgiveness in advance 😉
I was on my way to Dubai, UAE in July 2018 with an ~8 hour layover in Terminal 5 of the Heathrow Airport. I have a thing for Gordon Ramsay so I have to eat at his restaurants if I have the opportunity (check out my experience at his restaurant in Dubai at the Palm Jumheira!).
I knew I’d be eating again on the plane so I chose a small caesar salad and a cup of tomato soup. The tomato soup was rather boring and I was actually unimpressed… but the caesar salad was awesome! The eggs were perfectly cooked, the lettuce fresh, the anchovies whole and the bacon crisp. I don’t know how else to explain it – it was just freaking delicious. I had just tap water and a coffee to drink, and with the exchange, the mandatory tax/tip and fees from my credit card, that meal cost me $44.93 CAD. Holy crap.
Coming home I had a shorter layover (still 5.5 hours) and I knew I wanted the large caesar salad. Sure, it was also the most expensive caesar salad I’ve ever had in my life, but I had to get another fix. That one salad cost me $32.75 CAD. Again, holy crap.
So, in the end, I’m happy with the experience, but it’s a good thing I was in vacation mode because I’d never spend that kind of money on a salad in real life. Thank you Gordon – but your restaurant is definitely overpriced!
