I’ve been to The Wednesday Room twice and I think it’s fair to say it’s my favourite spot on Stephen Avenue right now. With music that reminds you of the good ol’ days and a basement with rock walls and furniture that remind you of your Grandma’s basement, it’s more than just a delicious restaurant – it’s an experience worth sharing with friends!
I’ve been both for lunch and for supper and was impressed both times (and oddly sat at the same table both times!). I’ve never spent any time upstairs, where it’s much brighter.
Lunch:
For lunch I had the daily feature soup which was a spicy Thai coconut. I do recall it was just a tad too salty but the flavours were delicious. The fried chicken sandwich ($18) with pickled celery, chewy tomato, gouda aioli and frisee on a ciabatta bun was very tasty and just a little bit messy. I was impressed that I was actually too full to finish my entire meal (this doesn’t happen very often for me!).
Supper:
I wanted to try so many things, because everything sounded delicious, so I went with just two LOL. And of course, since it’s been a while since I was there for supper, the menu online is different now and I can’t tell you how much they cost!
The roasted eggplant was delicious – with an amazingly spicy kick to it and a delicious smokey touch, there was a little party in my mouth with every bite. For a healthy dish, it didn’t taste healthy!
The steamed buns with duck were great too – something just a little bit different! Of course, steamed buns always stick to my teeth when I eat them so maybe they’re not the best choice when you’re catching up with someone and talking a lot.
My friend quite enjoyed her risotto but mentioned that the gorgonzola cheese was quite strong. To each their own – I’m sure I would have loved it!
If you haven’t yet made it in, you should go soon!
PS – sorry the photos are kind of dark… the lighting in the basement isn’t that great for a food blogger 🙂
