I wasn’t sure what category to put this post into – food trucks, restaurant reviews, stores, or ? So in the end, I just chose Seafood & Fish… it quite literally is what it is!
The Lobster Mobsters trailer travels across Alberta, delivering to Edmonton and area and parts of southern Alberta as well. They don’t often make it to Calgary, but I am close enough to Airdrie that when I saw they were going to be there I put it into my calendar so I wouldn’t miss it. Their website includes a schedule of dates and locations – make sure you check it often, and you can also follow them on their Facebook page.
I was super excited to try their lobster roll. It’s a simple mayo based lobster mix served in a large bun with plain potato chips for $20. I liked the lobster – it wasn’t too mayo’ish (is that a word?) and was seasoned nicely. However, it would have been amazing served in a toasted and buttered bun. The bun was a little bit too much, and toasting and buttering it would have softened it up and given it that bit of salty lubrication it needed. Yes, I said lubrication.
The trailer was out of smoked salmon which was supposed to be a part of the $120 weekly special – 1 lb of lobster meat, 1 lb Dibgy scallops, 1 lb jumbo shrimp and 0.5 lb smoked salmon. Instead of the salmon I got hot smoked mackerel. I’ve never had smoked mackerel before, so here’s hoping I love it! If not, my friends will be getting some fish LOL.
I’m looking forward to finding the perfect recipes for these awesome ingredients. It would be great to share the fish and seafood with people who would appreciate it… but honestly, I may not be able to share!
