I received an invitation to a cookbook launch so I scored my tickets as quickly as possible. I was super stoked to check out a new cookbook, meet some new people and taste some new recipes! Although I have to admit I had never before heard of the two sisters or their previous cookbooks, I’m excited to have found them now. This cookbook: Lick Your Plate, was written by sisters Julie Albert & Lisa Gnat. Their website is: www.bitememore.com – it’s full of lots of recipes and great ideas, and they’re on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram!
I didn’t know quite what to expect at a cookbook launch, but it soon became clear that many of us were food bloggers of some sort – taking photos and posting to various social media outlets (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) (all staring at our phones!), using the hashtags #lickyourplate #pureleafcanada and #bitememore.
I’m pretty sure the evening was a joint promotional event with Pure Leaf tea. We were provided iced tea to enjoy with the option to ‘tweak’ it with various berries and lemons. This was a neat idea, and the tea looked pretty with fruit in it, but I’m not sure the additions really added any extra flavour.
I ate a whole lot of sugar this evening… I mean, how could I not? This beautiful display was at the back of the coffee shop and servers brought around more to each table. Yum!
The venue was Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters in Marda Loop. I don’t think I’d ever before been to Marda Loop before, so this in itself was a bonus for the night. It’s a cute little coffee shop that had to clear its shelves for the evening to make way for cookbooks and iced tea.
Thankfully we were reminded throughout the coffeeshop what hashtags to use in our posts because I kept forgetting! Too much sugar on the brain?
These Banana and Chocolate Chip Cupcakes with Banana Icing were awesome – I even made them myself today using the recipe in the cookbook. But, there’s really no need for the icing – they were delicious without it.
These soft and chewy Ginger Cookie Sandwiches with Lemon Filling were awesome too. I even snuck one of these home in my purse!
With the Pure Leaf iced tea they were mixing drinks – yes, with booze! There was a ginger beer and a raspberry mojito – I went for the mojito. It was refreshing and delightful!
This was a fun evening and I’m super thrilled I got to attend. I even met another food blogger that I’m looking forward to keeping in touch with! You can pick up the cookbook at Amazon here (currently $24.75) (I paid full price at $32.00!). I can’t wait to try more of the recipes in the cookbook. So far, the banana chocolate chip cupcakes were delish!
