For Christmas I asked for a cherry pitter. I got a cherry pitter on steroids.
Apparently I’ve been out of touch with the evolution of cherry pitters – I thought they could still only pit one cherry at a time! When I searched online to find the version I now have so I could share it with you, so many multi-cherry pitters came up! To think that last year I pitted a tonne of cherries by hand, with a knife, when this little wonder could have been mine for a mere $10! Buy mine here on Amazon
Ok, so first of all the design of this thing is a little confusing. It looks like it should be able to fit 8 cherries, but nope. You can turn the cherry holder around to hold small cherries or large cherries. I’ve never seen cherries that small though…
So, you take the stems out of the cherries, plop them in the 4 spots right side up, punch down on the top of the device, and voila – the pits are pushed through into the tray below. It was clean and concise. However, not ever pit gets fully removed. You really need to check the cherries as you remove them from the tray. I learned this lesson the hard way, having chomped on 2 pits in my apple/cherry crumble (at least it was me and not someone else). I didn’t even notice those little buggers pass by me!
If you ever bake with fresh cherries like I did on this occasion – you need to get one of these multi-cherry pitters (there seem to be many to choose from)!
