I had seen a number of posts about Tuk Tuk Thai’s other locations through social media and I was pretty excited to see that they had opened a new location up in the north, near Symons Valley (Creekside). To be fair, I’m excited for any new restaurant to open up here that is actually good…
Anyways, the restaurant is large, with plenty of space and large windows. The tables aren’t squished together – likely because it’s seen more of a take-out restaurant than a sit down restaurant. I saw quite a few Skip The Dishes drivers come in during the evening to collect food for delivery. If you have kids, sitting inside the little tuk tuk to eat your meal would be a pretty fun experience.
Upon arrival, you head to the till, look at the menu board on the wall, place your order and go find a table. They will call your number when your order is ready. Service was super friendly – our servers were good to explain the menu items and make recommendations.
C ordered the tofu satay skewers ($3 for 2), the Devil’s Chicken (a spicy curry on rice) ($12) and the fried bananas ($4 for 6 pieces). She was hungry 🙂
I chose the Candied Cauliflower for $5 and the Pad Thai ($12) as recommended – this is the only noodle dish on the entire menu! All other dishes are served with rice… Just FYI.
I think the menu prices are pretty good, but then again, it is pretty much a healthy fast food joint.
The Candied Cauliflower was really tasty, but kind of sweet. There is absolutely nothing healthy about this appetizer – don’t think that because cauliflower is a vegetable that you can eat this dish guilt free. Nope. It’s battered, deep fried, and coated with something sweet. But it’s oh, so good!
The Pad Thai was pretty good. I got it with chicken. Out of all the fast food Thai restaurants I’ve tried, this place definitely serves the best pad Thai, so, kudos to them. The flower-like takeout boxes are pretty and fun, but trying to eat out of them is honestly a pain in the butt. I didn’t like how the edges of the paper were in my way – I had to hold the edges of the box down to get at my food.
I have to say, that (hopefully) because this location is new, it has some kinks to work out. It took quite a long time for our order to come out and the table of four beside us – with little kids – waited forever to get their food. So long, that one of the staff brought them a package of dried beef jerky and an apology. I’m sure this poor family waited 35-45 minutes to get their food. I know crap happens sometimes, but this was way too long.
I’ll definitely come back to the restaurant – it’s not too far from my house if I want to do takeout (or Skip the Dishes), and it’s casual enough that if I wanted to eat out by myself I wouldn’t feel like people were judging me here.
