It was long ago, back in my university days (1995-2000) that my good friend Sonja introduced me to sushi. I don’t think we ate it too often back in those days (we were broke), but when we did go out for sushi I sure do remember eating a lot. And, 18+ years later we can still do the same!
I had never been to Sushi Bar Zipang before but it has a great rating on Zomato and I’ve heard about it from friends. I’m glad I made a reservation (for 2, at 6:30) because the restaurant was busy! It’s not a huge restaurant and you’re kind of squished in there, so I definitely recommend you make a reservation.
The service was slow to start, but we did get our water and beer in decent time. However, it took forever for our sushi to come. And I mean, it may have even been close to an hour. I drank through my large can of Sapporo before our sushi came. We ordered another small amount of sashimi and a couple pieces of sushi before we were done our first batch, and I think that took half an hour to come.
The sashimi looked awesome… very large chunks of salmon and Sonja was very impressed with the taste and quality. I only ordered sushi and we shared some rolls. My only issue with the food was that the rice around the rolls crumbled off. This is the first time this has happened to me to this extent, and it shouldn’t happen in this quality of a restaurant, so I really wasn’t impressed. My soy sauce was full of rice because the rolls just fell apart…
I would definitely go back again for the sashimi and sushi. Hopefully next time the rice will stick together better…
