Valentine’s Day. A day of the year that can really suck if you’re single. Or, you could turn it into a special night out with a friend. It turned out that my best friend’s husband was out of town for work so we put on some nice clothes and went out for dinner together.
Since I had been to Osteria a number of times before, I knew that we’d have delicious food, good customer service, and all for a decent price. I found a parking spot right out front of the restaurant because there were spots reserved for customers – score! They took our coats and we were seated by the fire. There were red table cloths, balloons tied to some of the chairs, and the restaurant was warm and cozy. Half way through our meal the restaurant was completely filled up so I’m glad we made a reservation when we did.
Mike and his team put together a Valentine’s Day menu for the evening for $45 pp (the regular menu was not available). With steak and tuna as the options, both of us went for the tuna.
We were served complimentary bruschetta to start. If you like garlic, these puppies are delicious! Maybe not a great idea for a Valentine’s day starter, but since I didn’t have to kiss anyone that evening you could have given me a couple more of these puppies for sure!
The spinach salad was simple. I quite like their dressing – it’s not too tart and not too sweet.
Our tuna was delectable. Seriously. And I ate enough tuna in Maui to feed a hundred cats for a year, but this was a taste and a texture that I had never enjoyed before this. It was melt in your mouth tender, with great flavour; we were both impressed. This is why I come back to Osteria – they never disappoint!
I ordered a decaf espresso after dinner… sometimes I like to pretend I’m back in France (sigh…).
The limoncello cake was moist, dense, and super delicious. I have always loved a good lemon cake, and this was probably the best one I’ve ever had. I need to learn how to make a good lemon cake… actually, no I don’t. I’d eat it all myself and that would not be a good thing!
