A few of us were heading over to the U of C downtown campus to learn about their MBA program after work. We had 45 minutes to burn, so instead of hitting up the sketchy nearby McDonalds or Subway, we figured we had time for a quick bite in Moxie’s. The restaurant was pretty quiet at 4:45 on a Wednesday, so it was nice. Service was prompt and the food came out pretty quickly.
It turned out to be half price wine Wednesday, so we shared a bottle between three of us. I can’t recall what wine we had, but it was the house red, regularly $30/bottle – a great deal working out to $5 a person!
I ordered the Kale & Quinoa Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette (with poached chicken breast, toasted sunflower seeds, dried currants and grana padano). The photo doesn’t do it justice – it was fresh, light and healthy, but filling at the same time. I don’t know why kale never tastes so good at home… but tonight, I scraped every little bit of kale and every nugget of quinoa off my plate!
My friends ordered the Med-Bread served with 3 dips and the Calamari (with popcorn shrimp). They enjoyed their dishes, but note to self: read the details describing each dish. My friend doesn’t like shrimp but didn’t realize they came with the calamari. I’ve honestly never seen that before either…
We didn’t totally finish the bottle of wine. We were asked if we wanted to put the bottle in a bag and take it with us. I’ve never been asked that before (but, maybe I’ve never left wine behind before)…
