I met a new friend here on a Tuesday evening for dinner. The restaurant has a welcoming yellow door (of course!) and it`s in a trendy neighbourhood south of downtown. The restaurant was pretty empty, which seems to be the norm in Calgary during the week. The restaurant is a lot larger than I expected, with a few different seating areas, all nicely decorated. We were seated near the front of the restaurant near the giant horse lamp… odd.
We were torn between choosing the $40 Chef`s Choice three course menu, which is a great deal, and a regular menu item. Neither of us were keen on the terrine option as the first course, so we went with the menu. As I`m making efforts to eat healthier, I chose theĀ Roasted Haida Gwaii Halibut with zucchini noodles, salsa verde and carrot coriander broth for $32. I expected the flavours in the dish to pop – with salsa verde and corriander I figured it would be quite delish… but it wasn`t. I was rather disappointed – the fish was dry and the dish was rather bland. The mushroom like things were rather chewy and odd. Sigh… I wanted to like this place off the start. I`d like to go back and try something else. I understand they have a really great weekend brunch as well, and I`m a huge fan of breakfast!
When we left we walked into Hotel Arts to check out Raw Bar and the poolside tables inside the hotel. Such a beautiful venue – I can`t wait to try Raw Bar!
