My co-workers and I went here for lunch on a Monday. There were 9 of us so it was nice that they put us in the small room at the back. The room is a tad squishy; the servers had to shimmy between our chairs and the wall, but it worked. The table just needs to be 6 inches smaller all the way around… but, oh well. The restaurant is a bit loud as noted by all of us, so it was nice to be in the room.
It was really neat to have a full view into the open kitchen at the back of the restaurant. If I could have stood there and watched for a while, I’m pretty sure I would have ogled!
I’d eaten here once before during The Big Taste and had the mushroom soup at that time so I highly recommended it to my co-workers. They all enjoyed it but most of them said it wasn’t the best they’d ever had; too bad, because I remember it being awesome! My co-workers had a number of items – the rigatoni pasta with pork was not well-enjoyed; the mac and cheese was underwhelming – one person didn’t even finish it and Blink comped it. Apparently the pasta was way overcooked to the point of being mushy, there was a lack of flavour (e.g. salt) and there was not enough cheese in the sauce. One person had the confit of duck and said the dish was really good but he had to ask for salt from the server. I had the daily feature – chicken breast with polenta and veggies. It was well seasoned, well cooked, and the flavours all worked really well together. The polenta was fried with a nice crispy crust. I cleaned my plate completely! So, all in all, I’m not sure that the lunch was a success. To be fair, most of my co-workers are foodies like me so we have high standards… but for restaurants on Stephen Ave, we’ve come to expect awesomeness.
