It was our 5 year anniversary and we wanted to go somewhere new, but we didn’t want to go anywhere fancy. Briggs was recommended to us by a co-worker who loves food too, so we thought it would be perfect… plus, it’s Poutine Week in Calgary #PoutineWeekYYC and Briggs has a lobster poutine on the menu.
So, lets get to the review – customer service was great. The host/manager? was very attentive and checked in on us a few times and explained their Spanish Josper Oven (which added an awesome smoky flavour to the fries). Our server was really friendly and gave good descriptions of the menu items we asked about. The food was fairly fast to come out, which was nice.
We ordered 3 dishes to share: Lobster Rolls (comes with 2 for $21), Josper Smoked Wings ($13), & Newf’s Poutine ($18). To note: the lobster rolls are only available on Mon, Tues & Weds so plan your trip if that’s what you want to eat!
The Lobster Rolls came first – neither of us had had lobster rolls before, so this was a treat. We were impressed with how much actual lobster meat was inside these puppies. The buns were toasted, and there were hints of lemon, butter, and a creamy sauce that wasn’t too rich. We thought that for the price, it was an excellent deal, and they were so good!
Next came the Newf’s Poutine – poutine with lobster meat and a lobster cream sauce. The sauce was to die for (the kind you want to lick off the plate) and the fries had been placed inside the Spanish Josper Oven to absorb some of the smoky flavour. O.M.G. Seriously delicious! To put it into perspective, Jay’s 43 and he said they’re the best fries he’s ever had in his life!
Next came the Smoked Wings with lemon salt & chili ketchup. The flavour of the sauce was really nice, unfortunately the wings were cooked in the Josper Oven to have a char on them which we found overwhelmed the taste of the wings. We mentioned the char to the server and she indicated that’s the intent… so, we’ll pass on the wings next time. I can burn food at home…
We couldn’t have an anniversary dinner without a dessert. I chose the Poached Pear MLF because it’s something light, fluffy, and different. It came with a dish of chocolate sauce on the side that the server was supposed to pour on herself, but we chose to pour it onto our sliced pieces after we sliced it (that way, none was left to waste on the serving plate!). The dish was nice, but once we cut it up, it was a little hard to get the broken bits of phyllo onto our forks and into our mouths.
All in all, we will be back to have the Lobster Rolls and Newf’s Poutine again for sure. We’re also looking forward to trying other items on the menu!

I love Briggs! Went for poutine week as well, and it was delicious! Next time you should get the paella and the lobster mac and cheese! Those are my favorites. The short ribs are really good as well. =)
