I’ve seen cookie butter on store shelves before, but I never really understood how to eat it so I’ve never purchased any. Penotti creates a number of sweet spreads in Holland which are now available in Canada. When I was given the opportunity to try some of the Penotti spreads I jumped on it because it sounded so good! Thanks to @penotticanada for the samples! You can head to their Instagram account to see what new recipes and photos they’ve recently shared.
First off, I’ll admit that I had to use the the almighty Google for ideas on how to use the spreads. Penotti’s website has some good ideas, and I found this site with 12 ways to eat cookie butter. Making croissants, melting it over waffles and using it in icing on cupcakes sure all sound delicious (as does eating it straight from the jar!). At 110 calories per tablespoon these sweet treats are not for the calorie conscious.
Don’t judge… I did actually eat it right out of the jar!
I also melted the crunchy cookie butter and drizzled it on chocolate gelato for an extra touch of decadence – so good!
The Duo spreads were much more smooth and creamy than the crunchy cookie butter (go figure, since the cookie butter is ‘crunchy’ LOL). The hazelnut and caramel is my favourite for sure. You could spread it on crepes, pancakes or waffles… or even eat it out of the jar!
I made a wicked cheesecake for a potluck (oh, how I love cheesecake!), even though I flopped it. I drizzled melted Crunchy Cookie Notti cookie butter over the chocolate crumb crust, and over the top of the cheesecake I drizzled melted Duo Penotti Hazelnut and Caramel spread, along with a sprinkling of Valrhona Caramel Crunch Pearls that I brought home from Valrhona, France last year. If you love a good cheesecake, get creative and use any one of these Penotti spreads as a drizzle within or on top of, your cheesecake. So delicious!
